"Short Course" Friday Night Series

Since our viewing public has grown with the opening of Grills Tiki Bar next door we are changing our race format to a new shorter experimental course, designed to be closer and more exciting for the spectators. The new course will have much shorter legs with 2 short windwards, one short leeward and 2 longer reaches for excitement. We call it "Arena Sailing".

If you are interested in joining the fun we will meet here at Performance Sail and Sport at 5pm every friday in August and race till dark (rain-outs will be added at the end). The cost is $40 if you have your own boat and that includes on-site storage for the series. We will be chartering our boats nightly for $40 for each of the series nights (thats 3 hours for the price of one hour).

The winds were at a steady 8-10mph. We had Matt McDonald, Scott Hubel, Drey Willis, Kent Cooper, Brian Karr, Ethan Frederick, and InterTad, a newby to the friday night series . There was no hull flying or capsizing, because this week we tried team racing and handicapping the contestants by making the lead boat at each mark do a 360 turn. This was a new twist in this Friday night racing that just may warrant a pre-race, tactical briefing on team racing this next week. It was a cerebral shake-up.

This week we had no real outstanding performance to warrant a "Peoples Choice Award". Congratulations contestants.

Our nex race is Friday September 3rd. We have our 6th boat out this week for team racing (Thanks Brian) . We will be chartering boats nightly for this event so get on our list. Hope for wind.

ANNOUNCING THE
13TH ANNUAL HIRAM'S HAUL
OCTOBER 16th AND 17th
A 30 mile catamaran sprint down the Intracoastal waterway to the quaint, old Florida town of Sebastian and Capt. Hirams for the first party. Spend the night and enjoy Capt. Hirams or any of the other cozy watering holes. Return the next day with another 30 mile sprint to Performance Sail and Sport for the 2nd leg and overall trophy presentation and party.

8-9:30am: Late registration; at Performance Sail and Sport.
10:30: skippers meeting
11:30: Grand Prix start from Performance Sail's Beach.
5:30: Party at Sand Bar

Sun:
10:00: Running start from Sebastian Park pier, Award presentation and party, 1/2 hour after last finisher.
